Why this matters:

Menopause is a behavioral health issue. The system treats it like a hormonal one.

1B+

women are in or approaching menopause worldwide

80%+

experience physical & neuropsychiatric symptoms, from sleep loss to depression and anxiety.

~30%

of women with menopausal symptoms ever seek care

0

shared clinical guidelines across the specialties they turn to

Hormone therapy alone isn't enough, and behavioral health care works. The Menopause Society rates cognitive behavioral therapy as having good, consistent (Level I) evidence for menopause symptoms. This certification closes the gap.

What is the Menopause Behavioral Health Certification?

The Menopause Behavioral Health Certification (MBH-C) was created to close a real gap in care: the mental and behavioral health side of menopause is widespread, under-recognized, and rarely addressed by the providers women turn to.

Certified professionals learn to recognize what people are experiencing, screen appropriately, support emotional wellbeing and healthy change, and collaborate within a team-based model of care, all within their scope of practice.

The certification is built for clinical and non-clinical professionals alike: coaches, health and wellness professionals, social workers, therapists, psychologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychiatrists, and physicians.

By growing the number of professionals trained in menopause behavioral health, more people can finally get the support they need through this transition.

  • “Soak up all this great information — it is SO needed and valuable. The menopause population is a vulnerable one that deserves as many professionals as possible to provide their support and guidance.”

    -Stella, Program Particpant

  • "Menopause is such a sensitive time for women and it is so individualized. I'm incredibly passionate about helping to change how this season of life is viewed and to help women find their voice, their worth and realizations of their dreams of what they want this next chapter to look like. Having the MBH-C helps me do that with confidence."

    Marisa, Program Participant

  • "I really wish I had known earlier how important education and normalization around perimenopause are. Similar to perinatal mental and physical health, this is another major reproductive transition that deserves more conversation and support."

Scope of practice is woven through every module, so you learn the full picture and how to apply it appropriately for your role.

  • No. The material meets you where you are. Licensed clinicians can apply it within their scope to diagnose and treat; coaches and others working outside a diagnostic scope focus on education, behavioral support, screening, and confident referral, without diagnosing or treating.

  • The course is roughly 15 hours of self-paced video across 15 modules, plus 6 hours of live mentorship delivered as three 2-hour sessions. You have one year from enrollment to finish, and most learners complete it in three to six months.

  • There is no final exam. Your progress is confirmed through required questionnaires and knowledge checks at three checkpoints. Knowledge checks must be passed at 100%, and you can retake them as many times as you need. You also submit a short reflection after each mentorship session.

  • FamilyWell Academy is actively pursuing continuing education recognition, including continuing education approval through the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). This is in progress; details, including the number of CE credits and how to claim them, will be shared once approval is confirmed.

  • You'll be able to recognize the physical, psychological, and behavioral changes of perimenopause and menopause; screen for common mood, anxiety, sleep, sexual health, and vasomotor concerns; apply CBT and motivational interviewing techniques to support wellbeing; and collaborate within team-based care, all appropriate to your scope.
