Background:

FamilyWell is the first behavioral health start-up to implement a perinatal collaborative care model that embeds a wrap-around mental health program directly into OB/GYN practices for pregnant and postpartum individuals. Our mission is to solve the maternal mental health crisis by increasing access to equitable, affordable, and accessible mental health care. Our specialized care team consists of social workers, coaches, therapists, and psychiatric providers in the OB provider’s clinical workflow (both in-person and virtually), ultimately becoming the behavioral health arm of the OB/GYN practice.

Role:

As an Insurance Verification Specialist, you will be responsible for the verification of health insurance coverage, benefits, and cost estimates for members. You will reach out to patients to obtain any missing information needed to perform insurance verification with the patient’s insurance company. In addition, you will be responsible for educating patients on their estimated cost share using the benefits information obtained. You will work closely with our Behavioral Care Managers, Head of Revenue Cycle, and SVP of Business Operations to support the smooth onboarding and scheduling of members. Your attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to pivot  and multi-task, and commitment to customer access will contribute to the financial stability and success of FamilyWell in tackling the perinatal mental health crisis.

  • Reports to: Credentialing and Billing Supervisor

  • Salary: $45,000 - $50,000, depending on experience

Requirements:

  • 2+ years insurance verification experience

  • 1+ years of experience working with major Behavioral Health payers

  • Familiarity with Behavioral Health CPT Codes and Services

  • 2+ years experience working with practice management systems, insurance websites, EMRs, and other electronic verification systems

Preferred:

  • Experience with CoCM in addition to Individual Therapy billing/cpt codes

  • Experience using Healthie as an EHR

Key Responsibilites:

Insurance Verification

  • Verify insurance: Verify insurance coverage for new and existing patients, and obtain pre-authorization/referrals for services as needed

  • Update information: Keep insurance information up to date for existing patient

  • Communicate: Answer questions from patients, insurance companies, and other providers, and explain financial responsibilities to patients

  • Coordinate: Work with patients, insurance companies, and providers to ensure proper information is collected

  • Educate: Educate patients about their coverage and their estimated costs for services

  • Record Management: Enter data for new and existing patient accounts into the PM/EMR

Customer Success

  • Empathy: Provide empathetic and compassionate customer service to families who may be struggling to meet payment obligations

  • Resolution: Resolve payment disputes or concerns professionally and courteously that may result from benefits questions

  • Open Communication: Maintain open communication with providers, payers, and internal stakeholders to resolve insurance eligibility and benefits, as well as claims issues

Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of insurance practices required

  • Must be able to communicate with patients, peers, providers, and the general public

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of relevant health care or financial regulations and compliance requirements

  • Highly independent, proactive, resilient, and empathetic
