What’s a Perinatal Behavioral Health Coach?

The FamilyWell Perinatal Behavioral Health Certification (PBHC) Program was created to address the current maternal mental health crisis and mental health providers shortage in the United States.

Certified Perinatal Behavioral Health Coaches work directly with parents to provide emotional support, validation, and education on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, concrete coping tools, and wellness strategies.

By increasing the number of Perinatal Behavioral Health Coaches in the workforce, more families can access the mental health support they desperately need during pregnancy and the first year postpartum.

  • FamilyWell’s Perinatal Behavioral Health Certification Program is designed for any individual seeking to expand their knowledge of perinatal mental health and/or work as a Perinatal Behavioral Health Coach.

    No prerequisites or prior clinical experience are required to go through the program.

  • After your certification, you will be prepared and confident to support perinatal individuals with their emotional wellness. While many participants will use their certification to launch or continue a coaching career, others will consider this certification an addition to the birth or postpartum work they already do, as knowledge and experience gained through FamilyWell’s certification program will enable them to more holistically screen, support, and care for their clients.

  • Our certification program includes 10 hours of interactive mentorship sessions for reflection and hands-on application of coaching skills and CBT techniques with course facilitators and members of the perinatal behavioral health community. Mentorship hours will be offered via Zoom.

  • The program is 15 recorded hours which can be completed at your own pace and consists of recorded lectures, practice exercises and scenarios, and self-reflection components. After completing all the modules, you qualify to take our online certifying exam.

    Participants will also complete 10 hours of virtual live/interactive mentoring sessions. This is hands-on time to put your newly acquired knowledge and skills into practice. Mentoring is so important, and differentiates the FamilyWell program from others.
